One of the often-overlooked gems of Henderson is the farmers’ market, which is open in season on Saturday mornings. We got a wonderful e-mail message about the market this week, so we’ll let this reader-correspondent sing the market’s praises: “Last Saturday was the opening of the local Farmers’ Market. The location is on William Street directly behind Vance Furniture. Every Saturday morning you will find a wide variety of fresh, locally grown produce. Last Saturday they had cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, green beans, zucchini, peppers, potatoes, and lots of good baked rolls and desserts. You have to be there early, around 6:30, to get the best selection, but for those who like to sleep in there is still plenty to choose from until around 10 a.m. Shopping here is a great way to help our local farm economy, to help stop pollution ( this produce does not have to travel very far) and to help your health as well as your budget. Bring your own bags to help out, and when the sweet corn, Ridgeway cantaloupes and green apples come in, get ready for some real Southern summer food.”
