Henderson girls 2-0 at World Series

The Henderson-Vance 12-and-under girls softball team improved to 2-0 in pool play and all but guaranteed a spot in the championship bracket at the Babe Ruth World Series in Cherry Hill, N.J., this morning with a 4-1 win over Scott City, Mo.

The Missouri team dropped to 0-3 in pool play and is eliminated from championship contention.

Jessica Rowland pitched three perfect innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win for Henderson-Vance, and Jordan Garrett allowed one run on two hits over the final three innings to pick up the save.

Henderson-Vance scored all four runs in the top of the fourth inning on two hits, three Scott City errors, a pair of passed balls and a couple of stolen bases. Morgan Adcock, who had two of the team’s five hits, Victoria Burwell, Garrett and Natalie Reavis scored the runs.

Henderson-Vance beat Concord, Calif., 5-1 on Saturday and will play Sparta, N.J., on Monday morning and Liberty, Ind., at midday Tuesday.

The top three teams from each of the five-team brackets advance to the championship round Wednesday. The worst Henderson-Vance could do would be a tie for third in the National Division with 0-2 Concord, a team Henderson-Vance has beaten.
