The Henderson-Vance Interagency Drug Enforcement Unit seized heroin with a street value of more than $29,000 and arrested a man with a felony drug record on charges of trafficking in heroin and marijuana, Vance County Sheriff R. Thomas Breedlove and Henderson Police Chief Glen Allen announced in a news release Friday.

Horace Brame Jr., 29, was arrested after IDEU agents executed a search warrant at his house at 825 State St. The search came in response to complaints of drug sales at the house, the news release reported.

“The investigation into this matter would tend to show that Horace Brame Jr. and other individuals were using this location to store and sell marijuana and heroin,” the IDEU statement said.

Agents reported seizing 19 grams of marijuana and 970 bindles of heroin. Each bindle had “D.O.A.” or “Rest in Peace” stamped on it, a technique used for brand recognition, the IDEU said. Each bindle would have sold on the street for $30, so the total street value of the seized heroin was $29,100.

Other arrests are expected to arise from the investigation, the IDEU said.

Brame was charged with trafficking in heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed in lieu of $100,000 bond and is due in court Sept. 19.

Department of Correction records available online show that Brame spent almost 10 months in prison after being convicted in mid-1998 of possession of a Schedule II substance and possession with intent to sell a Schedule II substance. He was convicted of another count of possession with intent to sell a Schedule II substance in early 1995 and served almost three months behind bars.
