17-year-old charged with raping 7-year-old

A Henderson teenager was arrested Thursday and charged with sex crimes against a 7-year-old girl.

Deyon W. Durham, who turned 17 last week, faces charges of first-degree (statutory) sexual offense with a child and indecent liberties with a child after an investigation of what is alleged to be “ongoing sexual activity” with the girl, usually at a home in North Henderson.

Detective A.D. Simmons made the arrest three days after city police received a complaint about Durham’s activities.

Durham was jailed in lieu of $125,000 bond and is due in court Sept. 19.

The teen already has an adult conviction on his record, according to the state Department of Correction’s Web site. Durham is on probation after being convicted Feb. 23 in Vance County on a misdemeanor count of larceny. The offense occurred Oct. 9 last year.
