Cable ordinance hearing on city agenda

There are several items worthy of note on the Henderson City Council meeting agenda for this evening:

* A budget amendment on the Embassy Block Street Rehabilitation Project will be considered. The project was completed on March 30, 2005 and ran overbudget by $37,792.45. The final price of the project was $933,345.48.

* A budget amendment transferring $37,793 from Powell Bill funds to the general fund will be voted upon. It is presumed that this money will be used to pay for the overrun on the Embassy Block Streetscape Project.

* An amendment to the general fund of a $500 grant will be considered. The fire department was awarded the money for the purchase of a digital camera.

* A fourth amendment to the general fund transferring $389,833 in drug seizure funds will be entertained by the council. The money will be used for capital outlay, community policing projects, travel and training, department supplies, police canines, and professional services, and the VIP program.

* A public hearing will be set on closing the Embassy Block Community Development Block Grant Project.

* A public hearing will be set on an ordinance amending fees for zoning.

* A public hearing will be held on an ordinance regarding cable television service standards and practices. It is likely, however, the cable franchising will soon be taken over by the state, which will soon be taken over by the federal government in turn.

* There will be a continuation of a public hearing to renew the cable franchise with Time Warner Entertainment.

* Janice Jeffreys, president of the Henderson-Vance Human Relations Commission will present to the council regarding funding for the commission.

* Chair Lonnie Davis of the Public Safety Committee will report regarding Flint Hill concerns, a leash law for Henderson, the monthly crime report, and a pedestrian walkway and Maria Parham Medical Center.

* Chair Elissa Yount of the Journal Committee will report on the adoption of an ethics policy by the council.
