Local women charged with prostitution


On November 2 and 3, 2006, patrol officers of the Henderson Police Depatment’s Section III and the Department’s Selective Enforcement Unit conducted a “sting” operation in response to citizen complaints about street-level prostitution in Henderson.

Linda Mae Smith, 40, of 531 Young Avenue was charged with one count of procuring for prostitution.

At approximately 10:30 p.m. on November 2, an officer was propositioned while working in a designated undercover capacity in the area of N. Clark Street. Members of the Selective Enforcement Unit were constantly monitoring the officer.

The suspect was placed into custody without incident and brought before the magistrate, where she was placed on $1,000 bond. She has a court date of January 16, 2007 in Vance County District Court.

Melissa Mae Hill, 39, of 223 Turner Avenue was also charged with one count of procuring for prostitution. In addition, she was also charged with on count of possession of drug paraphenalia.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on November 3, the same officer was again propositioned while working in the same designated undercover capacity, this time in the area of S. Williams Street. Members of the Selective Enforcement Unit maintained constant contact with the officer.

The suspect was placed into custody without incident and taken before the magistrate, where she received $1,000 bond. She also has a court date of January 16, 2007 in the Vance County District Court.
