State Board of Education schedules January meeting


The State Board of Education will hold its January meeting next Wednesday and Thursday, January 3-4, in the 7th Floor Board Room, Education Building, 301 N. Wilmington Street, Raleigh.

Prior to its monthly meeting, the Board will hold a working dinner session on Tuesday, January 2, beginning at 5 p.m., in the Willow Oak Room, Sheraton Raleigh Capital Center Hotel, 421 S. Salisbury Street, Raleigh. At this meeting, Board members will be briefed on their upcoming regional meetings and discuss their proposed committee structure.

During their regular January meeting, Board members are expected to take action on calendar waiver requests, recommended cut scores for the NCCLAS Alternate Assessment and the Social Studies EOC test, proposed revisions to the requirements for an international faculty license and the recommendation of the appeal panel on John H. Baker Jr., Charter High School revocation. Board members will discuss science laboratory safety, charter school grade changes and enrollment increase requests above 10 percent, and the timeline for implementing the core course of study.
