Thursday’s open line

The Henderson City Council’s Journal Committee will be meeting today at 8:30 a.m. in the City Hall Conference Room.

Although this committee does not get a lot of attention, often the success or failure of any institution lies in its ability to maintain accurate records and to have a system to accurately and efficiently recall information from those records. One of the challenges career teachers face in the discharge of their duties is the loss of “institutional memory” because of the contemporary phenomenon of high turnover rates. In short, we end up doing the same thing over and over because no one remembers that it’s already been done. Maybe we should take a page from municipal government where the potential for frequent turnover is built into the record-keeping system.

Debate it or not on today’s open line.
