Photograph taken from a April 26, 2007 Home in Henderson article David St. house demolitions on schedule. In the photograph, Community Development Committee members Garry Daeke, Lonnie Davis, and Mary Emma Evans are clearly visible. Gupton uses this photograph as evidence in the letter below to support his claim that the Dispatch has inconsistently reported gatherings of City Council members.
The following letter was sent via email to the Daily Dispatch and copied to Home in Henderson earlier today:
Gentlemen,
I came across this photo on the internet and thought you may be interested. Is this any less of a meeting than the visit to the SNB [Southern National Bank, also known as the First National Bank building] by two members of the same committee?
The picture shows the entire three member Community Development Committee visiting an area of concern to the City Council. There was an announcement of the demolition, but not of an official meeting and would not have met the requirements had it been announced. Gupton, Yount and Wilkerson were also visiting an area of concern to the City Council.
If you see fit please publish this as you have the visit to the SNB by Mr. Wilkerson, Mrs. Yount and myself.
The breakfast Mr. Wilkerson and I occasionally share are at the once a month breakfast held by the Shriners on Brodie Road. I feel that I have always been open and above board in conducting business for the city.
I feel sure you have the best interest of the city in mind in your reporting and I continue to feel that I have not violated the rules.
I hope this will put an end to this foolishness.
Thank You,
Bobby Gupton
