City of Henderson soliciting applications


The City of Henderson is currently soliciting applications for persons interested in serving on:

Airport Authority (1 appointment) – The Henderson-Vance-Oxford-Granville Airport Authority is composed of 4 members and meets “as needed”. The purpose of this Authority is to direct the administration of the Airport.
(2 year terms)

Appearance Commission (4 appointments) – The Henderson Community Appearance Commission is composed of 12 members (all City appointed) and meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. The purpose of this Commission is to initiate, promote, and assist in the implementation of programs of general community beautification within the City and its environs. (3 year terms)

Human Relations Commission (7 appointments) – The Henderson-Vance County Human Relations Commission consists of 20 members (10 City and 10 County appointees) and meets on the third Thursday in each month at 7:00 p.m. The purpose of this Commission is to encourage understanding and good will between all citizens, to identify concerns within the community, and to promote peace, understanding, respect, good will, and harmony among all citizens. (3 year terms)

Library Board (3 appointments) – The H. Leslie Perry Memorial Library Board of Trustees is composed of 12 members (6 City and 6 County appointees) and meets regularly on the second Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. at the Library. The purpose of this Board is to direct and review the administration of the Library. (3 year terms)

Zoning Board (2 appointments) – The Henderson Zoning Board of Adjustment consists of 14 members (7 city appointees and 7 extra-territorial appointees) (10 regular and 4 alternate members) and meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 3:30 p.m. The purpose of this Board is to consider particular kinds of development within the City (and the City’s ETJ) which require consideration to review requests for special use permits and variances from the City’s Zoning Ordinance. When considering applications for special use permits and variances the Board receives testimony under oath and is required to make “findings of fact”. This Board has quasi-judicial authority and its decisions may only be appealed to the Court System. (3 year terms)

Recreation Commission (1 appointment) – The Henderson-Vance County Recreation & Parks Commission
consists of 12 members (7 City and 5 County appointees). They meet on the second Thursday of every month at 12:00 Noon at the Aycock Rec Complex. This Commission works to develop recreational plans and programs for Henderson and Vance County residents and gives guidance to the City Council, Board of County Commissioners and Recreation Department Staff on policies affecting recreational programs, facilities and resources. (3 year terms)

Community Development Advisory Committee (3 appointments) – This Commission is composed of 9 members, all City appointed, and meets as needed (called meetings). The purpose of this Committee is to facilitate two-way communication between the citizens of the community, especially those who are affected by local, state or federal neighborhood revitalization efforts or housing efforts, and the Mayor, City Council, and Staff of the City. It acts as an informative body channeling pertinent citizen input into City Government and City policy and plans into the community. (3 yr. terms)
