Henderson City Council to meet in special session

The Henderson City Council will meet in special session on Wednesday, June 27, 2007 at 5:00 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is for the Council to consider the latest version of the 2007-2008 budget.

The last version of the budget was rejected unanimously by the Council at their meeting on June 18, 2007, largely due to the tax increase of $0.055 per one hundred dollars of property valuation it called for on ad valorum taxes.

It is expected that this budget will follow a resolution passed by the Council on June 18 to cut $463,000 or approximately 2.5% from departments/programs paid for out of general expenditures, not including joint expenditures with the County for which contractual obligations exist.

If the budget is passed, the Council is also expected to consider the following budget ordinances:

  • An Ordinance Adopting a Rate Schedule for Fees and Charges relative to Water and Sewer Service
  • An Ordinance Changing the price of Cemetery Grave Spaces and Grave Opening and Closing Fees
  • At the meeting on June 18, 2007, City Manager Jerry Moss commented that the fees at the City cemeteries are still lower than those at Sunset Gardens.
