Journal Committee discusses ethics policy

The Henderson City Council’s Journal Committee met on July 17, 2007 in the conference room of City Hall.

The meeting was attended by Henderson City Council members Elissa Yount and Ranger Wilkerson. Council members Bernard Alston and Garry Daeke who participate in the Journal Committee were not in attendance.

During the meeting, Yount, the chair of the committee, discussed an ethics policy that will appear at the top of each Council agenda:

Chair inquires as to whether any member knows of any conflict of interest or appearance of conflict with respect to matters before the Council. If any member knows of a conflict of interest or appearance of conflict, please so state at this time. The City Council’s objective is to address public concern for good and open government.

Yount reinterated that the policy fulfills a Council objective for “good and open government”.

City Manager Jerry Moss told members that an employee handbook is “two weeks out”.

Yount announced that there would be a Council “ride-around” on Tuesday, July 24, to look at streets in need of resurfacing.

The committee chair also asked that the agenda be copied front-to-back to conserve paper.
