City Council makes commission appointments

The Henderson City Council made 21 appointments to the boards, commissions, and committees to which it supplies members.

In each case except that of the Appearance Commission there were more applicants than positions to be filled, a rarity in the past when there have been positions to be filled.

Henderson Mayor Clem Seifert commented that in eighteen years he had never seen so many people interested.

The Mayor then outlined a procedure in which the name of each applicant was read and then Council members could vote for the applicant. Each Council members received a number of votes equal to the number of vacant positions to be filled.

Because of the speed at which the votes were taken, and due to the visual rather than auditory nature of the vote, a record of which Council members voted for which applicant was unattainable by Home in Henderson. It also appears that the specific votes of each member were not recorded by City Manager Dianne White and will not be part of the official record.

A list of Boards/Commissions/Committees appear below with the names of members who were appointed by the Council last night. The number of votes received by each candidate as Council members were tallied is next to the name of each applicant.

After the vote was taken, Council member Bobby Gupton, who chairs the Land Planning Committee asked if any present would be interested in serving on the Land Use Steering Committee.

Moon, Ringley, and Ruggles expressed interest in the project as well as City Attorney John Zollicoffer.

Zollicoffer explained that he does not expect to be City Attorney by the time the committee convenes.

The Land Planning and Development Committee will meet on Tuesday, July 24, 2007 at 8:30 a.m. to review prospective members of the Land Use Plan Steering Committee.
