Public Works to try Chestnut St. signal removal

In a press release dated August 22, 2007, the City of Henderson’s Public Works Department Director Linda Leyen announced that her department is contemplating the removal of traffic signals on Chestnut Street.

According to Leyen, the change is being considered to improve the flow of traffic on Chestnut Street between Corbitt Road and Young Street.

Montgomery Street will retain its signal because of sight distance.

Effective Monday, August 27, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. changes will be made at all of the intersections except Montgomery Street along Chestnut Street.

Stop signs will be installed at all of the affected intersections that currently have traffic signals. The traffic signals will be put on flash mode for 30 days to allow for citizen and police input prior to signal removal.

At the end of the 30 day trial period, comments will be evaluated. If the input shows that there is no adverse effects to traffic and pedestrian safety, the traffic signals will be removed.

Those with questions are encouraged to contact Leyen at the City Operations Center or call 252.431.6118 Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
