KLRWS now at voluntary conservation

At the last meeting of the Henderson City Council on September 10, 2007, Henderson Mayor Clem Seifert acknowledged the receipt of a letter from North Carolina Governor Mike Easley asking 93 counties for water restrictions.

City Manager Jerry Moss stated that although a resolution needs to be re-adopted, an emergency water shortage plan is still in existence.

Yesterday, the Kerr Lake Regional Water System notified media that it had discussed both the drought policy of the system and also of the communities it serves.

The policy it enacted may be viewed here.

Based on the current Kerr Lake level of 294 feet, the policy puts users of the system at the level of voluntary conservation. Once the level reaches 290 feet, mandatory conservation will go into effect. At 285 feet, emergency conservation will be enacted. At 280 feet, a rationing policy will be put into effect.

It is unknown at this time if yesterday’s rain had a significant impact on Kerr Lake water levels.
