O’Geary describes plans for meetings

Before the new Henderson City Council voted to confirm the continued employment of Interim Manager Ed Wyatt, City Attorney Billy Strickland, and City Clerk Dianne White, Mayor Pete O’Geary shared his philosophy for how the Council would meet during its tenure.

O’Geary said that during the month of December that he and the Council would be organizing. He said that he would ask members which committees they would like to serve on.

When the previous Council took office in December of 2005, it acted to make former Council member Ranger Wilkerson the Mayor Pro-Tem. Wilkerson was then selected as a committee-of-one to make committee appointments.

The new council chose to defer action on choosing a Mayor Pro-Tem until its next meeting.

O’Geary stated that the committees would meet only when they are needed. He said that they would function for “policy and review”.

The Mayor also told the audience that the calendar for the 2007-2009 Council would be set during the Council’s December 17, 2007 meeting.

O’Geary told members that he wanted the Council’s second monthly session to be a “work session meeting”. He said that the second meeting would be canceled if it was not needed.

Members were told by the newly-sworn Mayor that if they wish for items to be placed on the agenda, Wyatt or White should be contacted, but that he would formulate the agenda.

O’Geary said that he intended for the agenda to be released by Wednesdays prior to Council meetings, but that support material “may have to follow”.

Before concluding, the Mayor stated his desire to have a Council work session in January.
