Weekend open line

How sensationalizing the weather almost killed your friendly neighborhood editor (and a friend of his):

About ten years ago or so I was visiting a friend in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Before we went to the dinner party we were to attend, we were watching the television which was busy telling us about the “very dangerous” thunderstorms forming all around the area and how they could result in tornadoes and microbursts. We scoffed, of course, because local news stations are always making more of the weather than it is.

Later on, as the tornado went by the car, we decided that the TV had been telling the truth that time.

Maybe they should have run a ticker that said “We’re not lying this time”.
