There will be a special meeting of the Henderson City Council on Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at City Hall, 180 S. Beckford Drive in the City Council Chambers at 5:00 p.m.
According to a release from City Clerk Dianne White, the purpose of the special meeting is to hold a closed session in accordance with NCGS § 143-318.11(a)(5).
This section of North Carolina General Statutes allows public bodies to go into closed session “to establish, or to instruct the public body’s staff or negotiating agents concerning the position to be taken by or on behalf of the public body in negotiating (i) the price and other material terms of a contract or proposed contract for the acquisition of real property by purchase, option, exchange, or lease; or (ii) the amount of compensation and other material terms of an employment contract or proposed employment contract.”
Because of the statute cited, the council is most likely meeting over a property matter or a hiring prospect.
