Blood types 0-, B-, and A- needed now

A slow down in holiday collections and a constant need for blood has severely impacted the supply of Types O negative, B negative and A negative blood.

Blood donors with these blood types are asked to please donate blood as soon as they can.

If there are no immediate drives in their area, donors are asked to visit blood donation centers in Asheville, Cary, Charlotte, Durham, Greensboro, Huntersville, Johnson City (TN), Raleigh (2 locations), Wilmington and Winston-Salem.

Why Is This Important?

– Almost half of all blood ordered daily by hospitals is type O.

– Type O negative blood can be safely transfused to patients of all blood types.

– In emergencies when the patient needs an immediate transfusion and there is not time to crossmatch blood, the patient receives type O blood until the emergency is over and the patient is stable.

– Type B negative blood is among the rarer blood types with just one person in 67 having this blood type.

– Only one person in 16 has type A negative blood.
