Sardines at lunch?

E.O. Young Cafeteria
Overflow from E.O. Young’s crowded cafeteria

Students wait in line to get their lunch from a cafeteria that is already overflowing with students.

Children eat a lunch tables placed in the hallway between the cafeteria and the gymnasium because the school’s population has exceeded the lunchroom’s capacity.

At the last meeting of the Vance County Board of Commissioners held on January 7, 2008, commissioners voted to allow the schools to spend $17,280 of lottery funds for planning and design services for the expansion of the cafeteria.

County Manager Jerry Ayscue noted at that meeting that the expenditure and the estimated construction costs of $216,000 would reduce the funds available to the schools to finance its larger construction package, e.g. the construction of a new elementary and middle school.
