Once again, discussions about recruiting and retaining quality teachers totally avoid the obvious solution: pay them more money for what already they do. Instead, they want to add Saturdays and after-school activities to the workweek and offer teachers mileage to the extra training sessions, something most professionals already have and take for granted.

Heck, when I was a record store flunky I got mileage for picking up special orders at the warehouse.
