HPD conducts “Operation Smoke Out”


The Henderson Police Department conducted “Operation Smoke Out” on Friday, May 15, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

The sting operation consisted of sending an underage person into convenience stores to see if they could purchase tobacco products.

The teen was accompanied by an undercover police officer who observed the transaction. If the merchant sold the tobacco product, the merchant was given a citation that carries a mandatory court appearance.

The violation for selling tobacco products to a minor is a misdemeanor.

The sting involved 22 convenience stores, with 13 of those visited selling tobacco products to the minor. Nine of the stores refused to sell the minor tobacco products.
