(Very) partial transcript of HiH chat q&a

Editor’s Note: I screwed up, again.

I did not realize that the text buffer of the chat software would only hold about ten minutes worth of dialog. Therefore, we can only present you with an edited version of the last ten minutes or so of former Henderson City Council member Elissa Yount’s Q&A session with HiH readers regarding the Embassy Foundation’s CDBG grant application.

Now that I’ve got some of the kinks worked out, it should be better next time.

Please be aware that this transcript has been edited for relevance, although it may not seem like it. The chat format can be discontinuous because replies to specific questions are usually separated by other comments or questions. Unlike a live debate, it’s impossible to know when someone else is writing, so participants can’t take turns.

Elissa_Yount: The question I had and still have is a performing arts center the greatest need or even a need at this time.

Bobby_Gupton: Mr. Fleming was on town talk today. We need men such as Mr. Fleming back in city government. I had never heard him speak before, the man tells it like it is and is so logical.

Tom_Hannon: Bobby is right. He represented the city extremely well on the Board of Commissioners.
wildman: In a town with no jobs who can afford to go to a performance

Elissa_Yount: I do want to say that building a performing arts center was not the top priority when the previous council was in office.

dvw: Politicians work for those in their face. The boys are pushing their plans. We are bitching. We have the winning project..let’s start pushing.

HiH_Editor: Ms. Yount: The spend-down of the proposed grant is 36 months for planning and initial construction. Do you think this is a realistic amount of time?

Tom_Hannon: I stand by my suggestion to call Bobby and say you are willing to be part of an organization

ynkee10: Borrow someone’s police scanner for a 24 hr. period–see what they have to answer downtown. Who would go downtown for a performance? The police do their best and.

becki_tremayneyahoo.com: We need to come up with an an agenda for $1.25 million in CBDG grants and propose it vs. the Performing Arts proposal for the 1.25

Elissa_Yount: I have never seen a business plan nor a financial statement so without information it is impossible to say accurately.

Fatlady: The previous council did a great job. Wish we had you back.

Elissa_Yount: Propose that they ask for money for sewer or housing. Plans are already drawn for both and both are in dire need.

Tom_Hannon: Before you go…Elissa, please give us some suggestions and thank you for doing this.

martha5975: Who needs to do this, Ellissa, and where can we get more info?

Elissa_Yount: Pay attention and stay tuned to HIH. This is a grand source of information and discussion.

Fatlady: Let’s take a survey.

HiH_Editor: We have about five minutes remaining for this Q&A session.

Elissa_Yount: The city has staff that works on CDBG. Unfortunately there could be a conflict of interest because a staff person at Embassy is shared with the city.

dvw: Those items are public when they start asking for public funds. Who’s going to bold enough to attend their board meetings? Even when they’re talking about you..they don’t want you at the meeting.

Bobby_Gupton: Rep. Crawford told the previous council when we were establishing our priorities that you only get to front of the line once, twice at best, so make sure your priorities are what you really want.

becki_tremayneyahoo.com: The Embassy Foundation is a private foundation with no open records requirements.

Elissa_Yount: Garry Daeke let the cat out of the bag when he said he preferred to discuss this ….how?

Elissa_Yount: Non-profits who use gov. money must open their books.

wildman: in secret

Bobby_Gupton: Garry said that he would rather ask his questions behind the scenes.

Elissa_Yount: Bobby is right. That is the game plan.

wildman: in secret

HiH_Editor: If there are any final questions, please submit them now.

sunshine6291: What is the game plan?

ynkee10: Thanks Elissa and Jason

Elissa_Yount: Bobby is right on both counts. Let’s get him to do this on joint funding!

martha5975: Thanks editor for this opportunity. Let’s do it again.

Tom_Hannon: Please call Bobby and lets get organized.

HiH_Editor: You’re welcome.

Elissa_Yount: Thanks Jason and let’s do this again. Lots of topics to discuss!

Bobby_Gupton: Thank you Mrs. Yount for sharing your vast knowledge of the Embassy project, and thank you Editor for providing the Chat Line

chattycat2841: Thank you Ms Yount and Editor, Good forum

HiH_Editor: I’d like to thank both the audience and participants for attending this first in what we hope will be a series of on-line discussions.

HiH_Editor: An edited version of this discussion will be available on HiH in the near future.
Tom_Hannon: Try to get Sam on, Jason.

Bobby_Gupton: Good Night Sam, I bet you are reading this.

HiH_Editor: You are all invited to stay and talk as long as you like. Please look for modifications to HiH Chat in the near future.
