A note from your editor

Friends,

As you know, the volume of “spam” (unwanted comment posts automatically placed by unscrupulous, malicious people in cyberspace advertising things immoral, illegal, and unwanted) on the site has been approaching a critical volume.

There has also been a problem with posts “disappearing”.

After careful analysis, we believe that the disappearing posts were accidentally deleted or marked as spam during the process of cleaning the spam off of the site and out of the moderation queue. For that, we apologize.

Yesterday we added software to the site that is capable of “learning” what is spam and what is a legitimate post. Please keep in mind that it may take some time to learn what it needs to know. Also, although no anti-spamming software can be 100% effective or replace human judgment, we have high hopes that it will mitigate the problem to an acceptable level. After we installed the software yesterday, we managed to use it to recover about 100 “missing” posts that have been problematic since July 9 of this year. We take this as a good sign.

We still ask readers to report missing posts to us at homeinhenderson@nc.rr.com so we can continue to tweak the settings to improve overall service.

As always, we thank you for your patience and your patronage.
