Henderson city attorney resigns

Immediately after the Henderson City Council emerged from an approximately one hour closed session on a personnel matter, City Attorney Billy Strickland announced his resignation from his position with the City of Henderson.

Telling both the audience and council members that everyone has heard rumors about his going or staying, Strickland stated that “family matters” compel him to return to Goldsboro with his “wife and four young babies”.

Council member Mike Rainey moved to accept Strickland’s resignation, a motion that carried unanimously.

According to a letter of resignation distributed by Strickland during the proceedings, the attorney will remain with the city until September 1, 2008, according to the terms of his contract.

Strickland has served less than a year with the city. He was hired by the previous council in August of 2007 and began work on October 1 of the same year.
