City weds extra-territorial water/sewer to annexation

The Henderson City Council voted unanimously on Monday evening to amend city code to require voluntary annexation in certain circumstances.

Interim City Manager Ed Wyatt introduced the change by stating that Henderson has not required voluntary annexation in exchange for the city’s provision of water/sewer services.

The city currently charges 240% of residential rates to non-residential customers.

Wyatt told members that in many cities, such a requirement is a matter of course.

The interim manager has previously expressed to the council a need for annexation because of Henderson’s stagnant tax base.

Wyatt recommended the adoption of the ordinance “and say to Frank Frazier and Erris Dunston that we encourage people to be interested in being part of the city.”
