A demonstration outside of the Vance County Sheriff’s Office yesterday in response to last week’s slaying of of convenience store clerk Sadeq Ali Mohammed Alashimali in Williamsboro.
About twenty-five to thirty demonstrators were present for the noon rally, including the victim’s brother.
Demonstrators bore signs reading “Sam We Care”, “DA Stop The Predator”, and Crime Stoppers placards.

Those present included county truck stop owner Tom Stevenson as well as George and Sam Watkins, owners of the Rose Mart chain of convenience stores.

The demonstrators were met by several county government officials, including Vance County Board of Commissioners Chair Danny Wright and Commissioner Deborah Brown.

During the rally, several demonstrators met inside the Sheriff’s Office with Vance County Sheriff Peter White, District Attorney Sam Currin, and Vance County Commissioners.

Bill Edwards from the Henderson-Vance Chamber of Commerce was also present at the rally.
