From 12:45 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., intermediate students from E.M. Rollins Elementary School walked Garnett Street from the school to the Henderson Police Department as part of its Red Ribbon Week observances.
Red Ribbon Week is set aside each year to encourage students to be and to remain free of illegal substances, tobacco, and alcohol.
The students carried orange signs of their own design that promoted and encouraged drug-free behaviors and lifestyles.
Members of the Henderson Police Department’s Bicycle Patrol and Lt. Irvin Robinson provided traffic control to ensure the safety of the students during the approximately two mile round trip.
Upon reaching the Henderson Police Department, the students presented Henderson Police Chief K.L. Sidwell with a banner signed by Rollins students reiterating their pledge to be drug free.

Sidwell accepted their pledge and told them in brief remarks he made during the presentation that the students should “act as role models to the adults of the community”.
Before walking back to school, the students were treated to a demonstration of police canine work.
