The drafting class of Mr. Jeff Arthurs of Northern Vance High School presents its redesign of the downtown “Interiors” building to the Henderson City Council on Monday evening.

Northern Vance High School Engineering & Architecture instructor Jeff Arthurs watched as students from his drafting class presented their drawings of architectural designs for the downtown revitalization of the “Interiors” building.

Students Kevin Byrom, Marshall Atkinson, Adam Daeke, Aaron Daeke, Blake Wade, and Joseph Falkner took turns describing the process from beginning to final product, discussing the initial interview with the property owner to learn of her goals, measuring spaces, and researching similar projects on the Internet.

The students gave a demonstration of the use of 3-D design software for the audience.

Finished drawings of rooms with furniture were presented in a Power Point presentation as the students discussed floor plans, apartment arrangements and the need to keep as much authenticity of the original building as possible.

“I think they’re doing a great job” Arthurs said of his students.

City council member Garry Daeke commented that it is “impressive to have kids showing a real application to what’s happening in our city now.”
