Arrest made in Nicholas Street robbery


On April 3, 2009, Darryl Lee Bumpass, Jr., 19, of 217 Turner Avenue, was arrested and charged after an investigation was conducted by members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division concerning three common law robberies which occurred within the past several months.

Bumpass was charged with common law robbery in connection with the December 24, 2008 robbery of Harriett Cooper of 925 Nicholas Street.

Cooper reported that she was entering her residence when an individual struck her from behind and took her purse which contained personal items and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.

Bumpass was also charged with common law robbery in connection with another robbery which occurred at Wal-Mart on March 29, 2009. Leslie McLaughlin reported she was assaulted and her purse taken while she was getting into her vehicle at the Wal-Mart parking lot. Taken from McLaughlin was a purse containing personal items and an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency.

Bumpass was also charged with the common law robbery of Dominica Davis which occurred at Wal-Mart on April 1, 2009. Davis was struck in the head and knocked to the ground and her purse was taken which contained an undisclosed amount of U.S. currency. Bumpass was placed under a $90,000 bond pending an April 20, 2009 court appearance.
