Drive-in seeks patrons’ outdoor movie lore

Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre

The Raleigh Road Outdoor Theatre is celebrating its 60th anniversary on July 18, 2009.

As part of the anniversary events, the theatre would like to hear from the community on their fond memories of going to the theatre. Many in Henderson and Oxford recall it as the “Moon-Glo” while others know it under the current name.

The theatre would like to hear stories from local residents that are:

  • Touching (for example, they proposed to their spouses there, etc.)
  • Funny (for example, they tried to sneak in and got caught, etc.)
  • Historical (Example: historical data; knowledge of what it was like in previous years; facts about the theatre)
  • In addition to the above stories, the theatre would love to hear from children that currently visit the theatre on the theme of “What going to the drive-in means to them”.

Stories can be submitted in one of two ways: via email or by sending stories to P.O. Box 904, Henderson, NC, 27536. Entries should include name and contact information so that the theatre may contact you. Deadline for the submission of stories is Saturday, July 10, 2009.

The theatre will select several stories and will invite the contributors to be part of the 60th anniversary events as a VIP guests. VIPs will be asked to tell their stories to theatre patrons during ceremonies on Saturday, July 18, 2009.

The theatre will also publish some stories on the theatre’s website.
