Butterfield applauds Supreme Court ruling

Congressman G. K. Butterfield issued the following statement after yesterday’s Supreme Court ruling regarding the Voting Rights Act:

“I applaud the Supreme Court for recognizing the value and power of these critical provisions. Just three years ago, Congress overwhelmingly reauthorized the Voting Right Act because it is as necessary today as it was in 1965. Thankfully, this ruling keeps the Voting Rights Act in tact. As one of Congress’ great legacies, it will rightfully continue to protect the right to vote and foster our transformation to a society that is not longer fixed on race.”
