City to make emergency repair to Ops Center

According to Assistant City Manager Frank Frazier, the company that was originally under contract to do repair work to the Henderson City Operations Center refused to do the repairs to the foundation after they were awarded the bid.

Frazier said that he and City Attorney John Zollicoffer are pursuing the matter with Ram Jack.

The matter was discussed at the regular meeting of the Henderson City Council on Monday, September 14, 2009.

The company was originally contracted to do the work for “a little over $12,000”. The new anticipated price is $37,425. Frazier told members that this is because more holes have to be dug and have to be dug deeper in order to support the foundation of the building on solid ground.

Member Mike Rainey expressed displeasure with the original company refused to do the work after bidding and being awarded the bid.

City Manager Ray Griffin strongly recommended that the city proceed with the work. He said that the foundation is continuing to shift and wall damage is continuing ans well. He said that the damage is more expensive than the fix.

Money for the repair will come from the water fund, the sewer fund, and sales tax refunds.

A motion to proceed with the repair passed with no opposition.
