Homicide

On August 23, 2009 at approximately 12:54 a.m., officers of the Henderson Police Department responded to the intersection of Highland Avenue and Rock Spring Street in reference to someone shot.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, Robert Newsome, 30 of 715 Highland Avenue. EMS personnel arrived on scene and Newsome was pronounced dead.

The investigation is continuing into this incident by members of the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Warrants for Shamond F. Champion, 22, a black male, 5′ 10″ and weighing 225. Fraud & Scam Case

On September 16, 2009 the Henderson Police Department reports that several elderly residents of Henderson were victimized this past week by criminals running a variation of the so-called “grandparent scam”.  In this particular variant of the scam, one of the alleged perpetrators claimed to be the elderly subjects’ nephew and asked victims for money, stating that he was having car problems and was broken down on I-85. The perpetrators sent someone to meet the victim and collect the cash for a nephew or grand-nephew that was supposedly was stranded with car trouble and needed money for repairs. 

The Henderson Police Department is asking anyone who receives a telephone call such as this to contact the Henderson Police Department. Do not attempt to meet or give the subject any cash.
