From the HPD: Potential mail scam

Editor’s Note: Longtime HiH reader Lewis Edwards posted a warning about this scam this past Tuesday on the open line.

Within the last few days, citizens in Henderson and the surrounding community have received mailings from a company listed as HSUSACORP.COM soliciting them to send money for insurance coverage related to their pipes bursting between city line and their houses.

The business is listed out of Miami, Florida and has been reported as being under review by the Better Business Bureau.

The Southeast Florida Better Business Bureau provided the following statement on their Web site regarding Home Service USA Corp:

“This company’s recent mailing campaign is currently under review. Home Service USA is not a city, county, or state agency. This mailing is not a bill, it is a solicitation. Please continue to check this report for further updates.”

There have been similar incidents in the Fayetteville and Garner areas.

The North Carolina Attorney General’s Office urges anyone that has received this letter in the mail to not send any money to the organization until further investigation is conducted. The Attorney General’s Office encourages those that have received the mailing to contact their office at 877.566.7226 or on their Web site to file a consumer complaint. Anyone that receives a letter is also encouraged to contact the Henderson Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at 252.431.6062.
