Eaves unveils “Carolina Helping Heroes”

First Gentleman Bob Eaves on Monday launched a new initiative and web site to connect volunteers with the families of deployed or seriously injured soldiers.

Carolina Helping Heroes creates a searchable registry of community organizations that military families in need can call for help with household tasks such as lawn care or minor household repairs.

The program provides an easy-to-use single point of contact for the thousands of military families across the state and those volunteer groups willing and able to provide support.

“This is a great way for community groups to spend just a couple of hours and make a real difference for a military family,” said First Gentleman Eaves. “I know that there are hundreds of churches, scout troops and other service organizations that want to help. It’s what North Carolinians do — neighbors help their neighbors.”

Initially, Carolina Helping Heroes is focused on building the volunteer registry. Faith-based, service and community organizations are encouraged to visit www.carolinahelpingheroes.nc.gov and register.
