“New Dems” applaud acquisition act


Washington, D.C. -— Today, leaders of the New Democrat Coalition, led by Congressman Joseph Crowley (NY-7) and the New Dem Budget Discipline Working Group Co-Chairs Congressman Bob Etheridge (NC-2) and Congressman Bill Foster (IL-14), released the following statement upon passage of the IMPROVE Acquisition Act of 2010 (HR.5013):

“We applaud today’s passage of the Defense Acquisition Reform bill, which cuts wasteful spending and modernizes Department of Defense Acquisition to keep our nation secure and our troops safe. The IMPROVE Acquisition Act will boost DOD transparency and accountability, increase innovation and competitiveness in the acquisition process, and modernize the DOD workforce and financial management systems.

“As New Dems, we are working to increase transparency and accountability in the federal government to make sure taxpayer dollars are invested wisely. The IMPROVE Acquisition Act demonstrates that the government can be streamlined and modernized while maintaining the Defense Department’s ability to meet established goals and missions. The New Dems will continue working with House Leaders and the Administration to identify additional common sense solutions to make the federal government leaner, cleaner and smarter.”
