Watkins, Harris reappointed to EDC

Local businessmen Paul Harris and Sam Watkins were reappointed to the Henderson-Vance Economic Development Commission (EDC) by unanimous vote during Monday’s meeting of the Vance County Board of Commissioners.

Harris and Watkins were both appointed to one-year terms last year as part of a scheme to reconstitute the board by randomly assigning members to staggered terms.

Other members were appointed with two-year and three-year terms.

Applications for the two expiring positions were received from retired law enforcement officer Eddie Vick and housing moving business owner H. Alvin Johnson.

Member Terry Garrison, who also serves on the EDC, moved to re-appoint Harris and Watkins each to three-year terms. Commissioner Tim Pegram seconded the motion.

The motion passed unanimously without discussion.

Members of the EDC whose terms expire next year are Tom Church and Charles Teeter. Members whose terms expire in 2012 are John Foster and Terry Garrison.

In a subsequent vote regarding membership to the Vance County Planning Board, Johnson and Blake Haley were appointed to two vacancies on that body.
