Butterfield appoints district director

Wilson -— Congressman G. K. Butterfield has named a Greenville resident as his district director.

A. Ray Rogers, who has extensive experience in banking and non-profit and faith communities, will manage Butterfield’s district offices and serve as chief liaison to constituents.

“He brings a great deal of business experience and strong ties to the faith and non-profit communities,” Butterfield said. “He’ll be a tremendous asset to my office and help me to better serve the community.”

Butterfield said Rogers would be responsible for directing all district-related activities as well as his six staff members who work in his Wilson and Weldon offices. Rogers would also be responsible for developing strong relationships with local, county and state officials and groups, and he will represent the office at meetings and events when Butterfield is unavailable.

“I hope to bring an added perspective to the office and help tie Congressman Butterfield even closer to the community,” Rogers said.

Rogers is a graduate of E. J. Hayes High School in Williamston, N.C. and hold a B.S. in Business Administration from East Carolina University. He also earned banking-related certificates from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Louisiana State University.

During his ten years of work as the business administrator at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church in Greenville, N.C., Rogers also served as executive director of Wholistic Housing Venture, Inc. and as executive director of The Cornerstone Ministry, Inc. Most recently, he worked as the interim chief financial officer for Precision Health Care Service, Inc. in Kinston, N.C.

Rogers also has 27 years of banking experience, working most recently as a vice president at Triangle Bank in Greenville, N.C. and at Wachovia Bank and Trust in New Bern, N.C. Additionally, Rogers served as a sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.

Rogers also serves as treasurer of the University Health System of Eastern Carolina Board of Directors, secretary, member of the Southern Bank and Trust Greenville Advisory Board of Directors and as a member of the Healthcare Advisory Board of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.

Rogers replaces Dollie Burwell, who will stay with the office but shift her focus to directly overseeing constituent casework and services, and devoting more time to the Weldon office. Burwell has been with the office since 2000 and was originally hired by then-U.S. Rep. Eva Clayton.

Butterfield said that the reorganization aims at better serving the needs of the district through increased outreach, a greater focus on casework and constituent services and increased hours of operation in Weldon.

“Dollie Burwell has a decade of experience and a deep understanding of eastern North Carolina’s people, politics and institutions,” Butterfield said. “So she was a natural choice for leading the renewed focus on casework and constituent service.”
