Evans’ life and service honored by resolution

The Henderson City Council unanimously passed a resolution honoring the life and work of fellow member Mary Emma Evans during its short regular session on Monday evening.

The meeting began with a moment of silence in Evans’ memory. A single rose in a vase was placed at her vacant Ward 1 seat to mourn her loss.

Henderson Mayor Pete O’Geary characterized the meeting as “a very sad time for all of us”. He remembered her as an outgoing, loving, and kind person.

“She will be deeply missed,” O’Geary said.

Evans entered Henderson politics through her service on the Clean-Up Henderson Committee. She was in her fourth term as a member of the council when she passed away this past Saturday from ovarian cancer.
