Within the last few days, citizens in Henderson and surrounding communities have received mailings from a company listed as Laubscher Cheese Company LTD soliciting them to send $2,315 via Western Union for a mystery shopper research program.
By participating in the program, it is claimed that the participant will then receive $300 for their participation.
This is a scam. If a person should deposit the check that is attached to the mailing into their bank account, he or she will be responsible for those funds once the check is processed. Once the check is processed, it is determined that the check is fraudulent. The victim of the scam will be out the total amount of the check. In this particular case, the check is valued at $2,975.
Members of the Henderson Police Department encourage anyone receiving this mailing not deposit the check. Citizens should be aware that this is a scam, and they will not be receiving any money from this mailing or the company.
The company represented in the mailing is also a victim, as its name is being used in the listing without permission. The company in Pennsylvania has received numerous calls from law enforcement about the scam.
