Thankful that our area did not get hit terribly hard in the storms over the weekend. Our condolences to those that have missing loved ones. How would Vance County fair if we were hit just as bad? Here’s Monday’s open line, enjoy…

I have to say I like the changes on HIH and am glad to be back. As far as the storms my prayers go out to those that lost loved ones, and I think that if a tornado hit Vance County we would pull together and do what we could to help each other out. What has me more worried is the fact that Bev Perdue just vetoed a bill for unemployment benefits to continue. The GOP only asked her to live on what the State takes in (You know like how all of us have to live on what is in our checking account). Now that seems pretty reasonable to me but hey I was smart enough not to vote for her in the first place.
Got to say that I was glad Gov. Perdue did not let this bill pass. Using those who are unemployed and needing assistance as the pawn to take away the Governor’s right to vetoe and negotiate a budget was a terrible ploy by the Republican legislature. There is still time to negotiate a budget, and the elected Governor has always been a player in that decision, whether Democrat or Republican. First time I’ve seen the legisative branch try to take that role away from any Governor. Yes, this is a tight budget year, and additional revenues or not, the Governor can still have some say so as to where funding goes.
With all the devestation in North Carolina and as a former resident of Vance County, my prayers and thoughts go out to all citizens that was affected by these storms.
My question now has there been any reporting of looting in these areas and if so, what is the Governor doing about it?
Julian, Curfews were enacted in the worst affected areas, I have not yet seen any reports of looting.
