A reminder that city offices will be closed on Friday, and many places of business in the area will be closed as well. We hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend. There’s several activities in the area, a car wash on Friday, and a few Easter Egg hunts for the kids on Saturday. The Embrace Henderson event has been rescheduled to occur on Saturday as well, due to the weather last Saturday. Check our Calendar page for more info on events.
I hope everyone has a safe and Blessed Easter!
What sign is a better indication of the economy? That this week McDonalds hired approximately 50,000 new workers? Or that in the same week they also announced upcoming price increases due to increased cost of their product.
When the unemployment numbers come out next month that shows these new workers, who will take the credit for that dip in unemployment numbers? And who will ignore the fact that last April, McDonalds also hired approximately 50,000 workers. Spring time is a yearly hiring spree for the chain, prepping up for increased spring and summer sales. Those workers end up leaving the job near fall as they go back to school and the company downsizes for the winter season.
The New York Times reported that Americans are the most pessimistic they’ve been in two years about the economy. I don’t think there are any better indicators. They’re all bad.
i was just checking out the article in the Dispatch online. Since I don’t have a online subscription, can any tell me if the NAACP is just focusing on the HPD or both the HPD and Sheriff Dept?
I think the rising cost of products is a better indicator of the economy.
and it isn’t good.
national debt/deficit is increasing by the minute.
the dollar is falling.
prices are rising.
no one should take credit for anything..
they should take the blame.
is this a good time to raise payroll taxes?
Billy…………. what do you really think? I have my opinion and it’s not good.
Americans would be more optimistic if they didn’t turn around every corner and see people misusing the system we have in place. But, I think the pendulum is swinging back and the hard working people have had enough. Limit the entitlements!
Sure seems funny that there are 3 dislikes in these columns. Strange, kinda strange.
I agree that is very strange.
Mudball. What I really think might be a little one sided but hey, it is what it is.
What I am going to do is read the whole article and then see if I still feel the same way.
Maybe I can get three dislikes.
What I really think is that someone is recruiting friends to come on and “dislike” a significant amount of posts. The numbers add up strange and some posts are disliked because of what reason? Some aren’t even to be liked or disliked, they are just post. I really think Phil has some adjustments to make on the system.
The numbers are getting funnier by the minute. I didn’t even get my post posted before it had a dislike. Phil, you better check closely before all posts are hidden. Ira sure is silent isn’t he?
We have identified approximately 10 accounts so far setup by ‘Ira’ to abuse the website, and they have been banned. Any more identified accounts, or future attempts to abuse our system will result in bans as well.
And so IT begins .
Betterworld, I agree with you, especially when the system is abused.
but let’s not leave out the billions paid out for bail-outs of “preferred” banks, and unions retirement accounts…or the subsidy hand outs to big businesses, or “investments” given to “preferred” companies?.
question…why are we giving a loan guarantee of mega-millions to Brazil for their petro-chemical company Petrobras to drill for oil offshore, when American oil companies are kept waiting and jumping thru hoops for drilling permits?
and why has the promise been made to Brazil, that we would be a loyal customer of their oil?
It might make a person think that foreign companies (and countries) are preferred over our own.
what begins, Tim?
Great Day for Easter
WAY to go Phil! I just knew something was fishy. It’s sad when someone abuses such a great thing as HiH. Some folks just can’t play nice. Have a GREAT EASTER!
Ziggy I have mixed feelings about that. I will say that I prefer bail outs to businesses that are employing people rather than people sitting around all day committing crimes. What I would like to see is a strong ethical peer pressure that keep people (businesses are just people) in check — something more like the Japanese and perhaps the way Americans once were.
Oh and Ziggy — why would we rather drill in Brazil than in the U.S.? I would say to that — why do Vance residents prefer people to go shoot pistols at ranges in other counties and deny us the facility to do it here? Same thing. The ‘not in our backyard’ theory.
This is my first comment on the “new” Home in Henderson. I personally like the process that is being implemented to try and clean up the image of this place. I personally feel that it would have been even better if Phil had changed the name of the blog in order further revamp the image of this site. Phil, does this mean that people can no longer have more than one account? I believe that in the past many people would comment numerous times on the same topic using many different names in order to give the impression that many people are commenting on that particular topic.
Welcome, thanks for joining us! The name means a lot, not only is location important in a business, also name recognition. That’s simple marketing. I have no plans to change the name, although I will not say never. With over 3,200 visitors since we took the site over, and nearly 700 followers on our facebook, I feared we would loose a large chunk of what following we do have if we were to have changed names during our changeover.
There is no restriction on the number of accounts someone may have, provided that those accounts aren’t used to abuse our network. We fully anticipate that people would have 2 accounts, one verified account (if desired) and one personal account. If someone wants to make more, then that’s acceptable too, however the idea is that it would be so much trouble to keep creating new email accounts, and then an account on here, and keep track of each set of username and passwords that it wouldn’t be worthwhile to do so.
I welcome anything that will draw up conversation here, however 1 person creating 10 accounts and spending your Saturday night using them to dislike every comment you can find is abusing our system.
I also believe (there’s no way to prove that) that people would post under different names on the old site to draw up opinion. However, even with it being ‘anonymous’ they usually got called out on it by the other readers. But it did draw up conversation, which is the goal of this site. We want people to comment on what interests them. I think the readers are smart enough to recognize propaganda, and some are even able to take the comments with a grain of salt. Even Ira was able to draw up conversation with his snide remarks. And if Ira had simply kept to those snide remarks on this new site he wouldn’t have been banned.
Betterworld..I was just pointing out that there is welfare at both ends of the spectrum.
with all the bail outs and so called stimulus spending, seems like the only jobs that have been created are government jobs.
I think, that for the most part, businesses should rise or fail on their own merit, and the government shouldn’t be picking and choosing which businesses to support with taxpayer money, or loans that add to the debt.
I do concede that there has been too much social spending without enough oversite.
Americans need oil, and we better get it quick..not just for gas, but for the gazillion products made from petroleum.
anyone seen the price of tires, shingles, etc..lately?
There was an appreciable but fairly low number of people commenting multiple times with multiple user names on a particular issue. It was something I tried to discourage through deletion. Once I stopped logging IP addresses, of course, it became impossible to tell, so I don’t know if there was more of that sort of thing afterwards. I will tell you that there was not nearly as much of it as HiH opponents liked to think there was.
