Kerr Lake to host Walmart BFL Piedmont Division Event

The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Kerr Lake May 14 for the third of five stops in the Piedmont Division. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $9,500 and $3,000, respectively.

“The topwater bite will on like Donkey Kong,” said Castrol pro David Dudley of Lynchburg, Va. “Of course, that’s if the water level stays the same as it is right now. It all depends on how much rain we get between now and then.”

Dudley said popular topwater baits will include the Zara Spook and Rebel Pop R. He said anglers also will have success fishing a Carolina rig on flat mud points.

“The average fish right now is 2 ½ pounds,” Dudley said. “It should take 13 pounds to win that tournament.”

Takeoffs and weigh-ins will be at Satterwhite Point Marina located at 6470 Satterwhite Point Rd. in Henderson, N.C. Takeoff is scheduled for 6:30 a.m. while weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Kerr Lake BFL tournament is being hosted by the Vance County Department of Tourism.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
