HPD thwarts copper robbery


On Thursday May 12, 2011 at 12:10 A.M. Officer J. Freeman was on patrol on Parham Road in Henderson.  Freeman observed a suspicious vehicle at the Scottish Inn Motel parking lot.  Freeman conducted a brief interview with the driver and then released him from the scene.

Minutes later, Freeman noticed a suspicious male walking in the area of the Waffle and Pancake House on Parham Rd.  Freeman conducted a field interview with this individual and found him to be in possession of burglary tools.  After further investigation, this male was associated with the driver of the vehicle.  An area search was conducted and it was found that the copper pipe from the air conditioner unit at the Waffle and Pancake House had been damaged and attempted to be removed.  The driver of the vehicle was relocated still in the area.

Jonell Lamar Brown, 20, 656 Burchette Road, Manson was charged with Possession of Burglary Tools, Attempted Larceny, and Injury to Personal Property.  He was placed in the Vance County Jail after failing to post a 12,000.00 secured bond.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled in Vance County District Court on July 19, 2011.
