Does anyone know if anything was said about a cross the board raise for the city employess?
From the initial reports I have we are working on, no. So, I don’t think so, but I’m not saying for sure because I wasn’t there.
I missed the meeting as well, but I have heard that they are looking to giving the police department a possible 20 percent raise but cutting the ten positions they have open. There were just rumors ciculating that some other departments were goint to the meeting to plead their case for a raise also. So I was trying to figuer out what came out of the council meeting last night.
It is true they may do as you say regarding the police. You may read our article about it here: http://homeinhenderson.com/2011/05/20/henderson-police-to-lose-sworn-officer-positions/
I read the article and i know the HPD have a very difficult job and i could see why they have such a huge turn over rate( just go east of the rail road). If they do decide to cut theses positions to retain the money, isn’t the money suppose to go back into the general funds? There are awhole lot of departments out there working just as hard as the HPD. Im not trying to take nothing from the HPD, they do a outstanding job with the resources they have in a crime and gang infested town. I just wanted to say that i think the whole city is underpaidand that maybe the council members should think about this before rewarding one department for a raise, I think it would be a big moral killer for the city. I mean look at you city firefighters, 11arson cases right now so far for this year. Thats a pretty good number for a city the size of henderson and them guys do a great job every time they go out. These guys run a whole lot too with ems calls in the city, just listen in on a scanner and get a feel what they go threw. It’s many days that they go awhole 24 hours with out sleep due to there call volume. I just want he council to realoly think hard over there decisions.
I agree Crock86, but it seems the police are in the crosshairs every time they put on their uniform and strap on a gun. Plus, they are the ones loosing people every month. Fire and EMS work hard and long hours. All city staff need some help with pay, but ths city isn’t growing, so there seems to be n o money for any growth. I don’t think the citizens could stand, or would stand for, a four cents tax increase, which by my estimates would be needed to give all a 2 percent raise

Mingo i agree that they are on the front lines of danger of the city. I dnt know awhole lot about the other departments in the city ( which i find fault upon myself for not being a knowing tax payer) but plan to satrt paying more attention too. I know guys that work at the fire dept and guys that work for the police dept. They is one big difference between the two departments that alot of people dont know about. A henderson police off gets pay for every hour they are there, if they work for 12 hours they get paid for everey hour they work. The fire dept works for 24 hours and only gets paid for 14 of them and they get time deducted for there meals too. They too have had a big turn over rate in the last two years. I also agree that the citizens are not gunna go for 4 cent taxes increase either. That is why i am questioning about giving anybody a raise at all right now. I kinda think you need to go by the motto ( do for all what you do for one)
