As a follow up to our brief last week, Mr. Obama gave his weekly address Saturday from a Chrysler plant in Ohio.
This weekend, we received a reader comment in our email from Stan that reads:
Found several one/five gallon cans of old paint/stain. Took them to the dump and gentleman there said they will only accept if dried out. So I went to the landfill and learned from the kind lady there that Vance County does not have a place to recycle old paints. She recommended leaving cans open so paint can dry out and place kitty litter in the cans to absorb the materials. Once dried out completely, Vance County waste industries will accept. Seems this could be a long and painful process “watching paint dry” before taking to the dump. Wonder what others in Vance do with their old paints?
It’s my understanding this Paint Reclamation place is supposed to be looking for sources of paint… I’m not sure their business model but I think I see a solution for both PRI’s lack of sources, and the landfills lack of being able to accept paints…

In the old days of HomeInHenderson the editor had a passion for the workings of the local government. That seems to be lost now with the change in ownership.
Another change has occurred on the Vance County web-site, the posting of the County Commissioner’s Agenda for the June 6, 2011 meeting.

I wonder what one local power broker and one well connected commissioner are planning to cover during the closed session. The only why will might learn is through the local paper. HiH has no interest as it once did for the goings on in county and city government. How sad.
#2 – i don’t think the new owner lost the interest or the passion about what is going on the local government. FYI for the past days, i had read articles about city and board of education news from their hired reporters. maybe you are not just browsing the site well. check this link:
for the city news:

for the county news:

As I’ve said before, I can provide the place, but its up to you guys to utilize it. So far I have only one person who has offered to cover anything, and that’s the city council meetings. Leigh Hester has done a great job of covering the meetings, maybe you’ve missed her articles:

We had another person who wanted to write regular articles on the county and school board meetings, however she has now backed out as of last week. If anyone would like to become a ‘reporter’ all you have to do is contact me so I can coordinate and get you the media information. If you don’t want to be an official reporter and just want to discuss the meeting, or any city and or county business that’s these open lines are for.
If I recall correctly, a month or so ago when the had the weekend cleanup–we were told we could leave paint cans at the Taj Mahal and representatives of PRI were collecting the cans.
Was that so? Can we take paint to the PRI on scheduled days?
I’ve seen lots of local news and events posted here.
Here is a summary of the high points during Monday tonight’s County Commissioner’s monthly meeting. The single most significant event of tonight’s meeting was at the conclusion of the public part of the meeting. Mr. Edward Blue, American Legion Post 60, presented a Gold Star Flag to Commissioner Deborah Brown. Next time you see Ms. Brown tell her thanks, her family has given the maximum to this Nation.
