Tuesday Open Line

Monday, the house voted for a compromised debt ceiling deal with the senate expected to consider the bill on Tuesday.  The bill would raise the debt ceiling by more than $2 trillion and cut federal spending by a similar amount over the next decade. A special congressional committee would be set up to consider entitlement and tax changes.

A reminder this coming weekend in North Carolina features a state sales tax holiday.  Clothing, footwear, and school supplies of $100 or less per item; school instructional materials of $300 or less per item; sports and recreation equipment of $50 or less per item, computers of $3,500 or less per item; and computer supplies of $250 or less per item will be exempt.  Clothing accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, protective equipment, wallets, furniture, items used in a trade or business, and rentals are not covered by the exemption and will be subject to the applicable tax.  Meaning for example even if you purchase a computer system, but you will be using it in an  office, that is not eligible for the exemption.

I can confirm HiH’s parent company, Dataforge has already had 3 customers place their orders for computer systems for the holiday.  Be sure to patronize your local Henderson businesses, as they participate in the tax holiday just like the big retail stores.  If you need suggestions of local business check out this list at hendersonvance.org
