Monday, the house voted for a compromised debt ceiling deal with the senate expected to consider the bill on Tuesday. The bill would raise the debt ceiling by more than $2 trillion and cut federal spending by a similar amount over the next decade. A special congressional committee would be set up to consider entitlement and tax changes.
A reminder this coming weekend in North Carolina features a state sales tax holiday. Clothing, footwear, and school supplies of $100 or less per item; school instructional materials of $300 or less per item; sports and recreation equipment of $50 or less per item, computers of $3,500 or less per item; and computer supplies of $250 or less per item will be exempt. Clothing accessories, jewelry, cosmetics, protective equipment, wallets, furniture, items used in a trade or business, and rentals are not covered by the exemption and will be subject to the applicable tax. Meaning for example even if you purchase a computer system, but you will be using it in an office, that is not eligible for the exemption.
I can confirm HiH’s parent company, Dataforge has already had 3 customers place their orders for computer systems for the holiday. Be sure to patronize your local Henderson businesses, as they participate in the tax holiday just like the big retail stores. If you need suggestions of local business check out this list at hendersonvance.org
Hey, have any of ya’ll seen what’s going on with Your Voice In Oxford? There’s a battle going on between Ziggy and Aunt Bea and the owner’s of the website. Looks like Ziggy attacked Auntie for no cause as to what I can see. Ziggy, you’re a meanie, aren’t ya. I would say Ziggy broke the rules saying she knew who Aunt Bea was and this poster called Magnum PI defended Bea’s cause. It’s a mess. I believe it was last Wednesday’s open line on YVIO. It was all about freedom of speech.
Here http://yourvoiceinoxford.com/?p=21871
Simple Google search will give you the link to the August 13, 2010, posting on the real HiH and the real name for the pseudonym ziggy.
BTW – I see that Ira, Magnum Not PI and Aunt Bea are all on the Oxford blog. Anon3 is Oxford where the real HiH posters have all migrated?
Ira was banned from the new HiH I think. I do not remember a magnum not PI or an aunt bea from the old HiH. The oxford one seems to have much less commenters than this new HiH does. Oxford has moved to a registration required blog also to comment. I think they have their own community there discussing their own problems, but some seem to visit both sites as maybe they are between both cities. The oxford blog commented recently on the lack of commenters, and I will say I do not post there as I feel the blog is very conservative, not only the commenters, but the article postings by the owners as well frequently bash anything Obama.
anon3, I didn’t see what you meant about ziggy, the real name. could you post a link for that? She is really mean and a know it all.
Isn’t it against the Terms of Use to reveal a poster’s identity?
It was when Jason had HiH.
The old HiH site had: “Comment posts must not speculate about the real identity of an anonymous comment poster, nor may you identify an anonymous comment poster.”
In fact, it also had “Contributions must be civil and tasteful. No disruptive, offensive or abusive behavior: contributions must be constructive and polite, not mean-spirited or contributed with the intention of causing trouble. No impersonation. If you use multiple logins for the purpose of disrupting a community or annoying other users you may have action taken against you.”
Now come on, if we kept all that, we wouldn’t have any comments at all the way you guys are. I don’t feel it’s necessary to police the website like that with the new features that have been implemented.
So, it is not against the current terms of use to attempt a guess a posters identity. Because even if you did guess right, why would anyone believe you? You can speculate all you want to, however you’d have to have some pretty amazing proof, even more proof than I could come up with, that a user account belongs to a particular person. Unless you saw a person logging in as an account with your own eyes there’s no way to know who is who.
This website is full of speculation. That’s what it’s all about. That’s why you all come here. You championed for a stable place to voice your concerns freely. You wanted this to be a place where you are free to speculate on all sorts of things, including city and county business, what politician is up to no good, what criminals are up to, what the latest ordinance really means etc etc. If you want to tarnish your own username by spouting nonsense about who might be who that’s your choice. But you better be ready to be on the receiving side of that as well.
Where do we draw the line on what speculation is allowed? New Company LLC just opened up, as a subsidiary of another company that is known for fraud, the owner has multiple felony charges etc. I saw Local Leader go into New Company yesterday, they must be up to no good! HiH user once commented they enjoyed New Company LLC products, that must be the one!
If you do not agree with someones comment, including that they are attempting to guess someone’s real name, then use the already built in site features to dislike that comment. Get your friends to log in and dislike it if you are so inclined. Once a comment has enough dislikes it is automatically hidden. A reader would have to click on the hidden commented area to reveal the comment and read it. More importantly, don’t just ‘dislike’ the comment, offer your own thoughts and counterpoints as well. What you can’t do is come here and dislike ALL comments just to be mean. That’s what got Ira banned.
The report a comment feature is if you believe a comment violates a law. For example it is slanderous, or induces an illegal activity. I guess it’s possible, but I think you’d have a hard time proving that a pseudonym has been slandered.
Besides, as Anonymous said, the identity of ‘Ziggy’ is public information now, and can easily be found with a simple google search, or in our own archives. However, what some people may want to consider is the Ziggy of today may not be the same Ziggy of yesteryear.
If you feel that we should change this policy, please discuss. But you got to make a choice on how much free speech you want this blog to have. Don’t complain about another website limiting free speech to one user, then also complain that the free speech of another user should not be allowed. Besides, with the wording not being in the current policy, we can’t add it and apply the existing comments to the new policy.
