Henderson to Undergo Redistricting

Reporter – Leigh Hester – Due to population shifts over the past decade, City electoral wards have become unbalanced, and some Henderson citizens will likely be moved into new wards for future elections.

After an extended work session in July, certain changes have been recommended:

Certain areas areas on Parham Street and north and west within Ward 2 are proposed to be moved to Ward 1. Areas northwest of Garnett Street, currently also part of Ward 2, could shift into Ward 3. Berry Street and areas to the northeast would shift from Ward 3 to Ward 4.

The City of Henderson has posted the current and proposed maps.  Also is a map showing what areas will be changed from the current to the proposed.  You may view these maps on their website at http://ci.henderson.nc.us/news/2011-ward-redistricting-maps/

Public input and comment is invited a public hearing to be held in the City Council Chambers in City Hall, at 7:00 PM, on September 12, 2011. Prior to the hearing, a map of the proposed changes will be posted at City Hall at the office of Erris Dunston, Planning and Community Development Director, and at the City Clerk’s office.
