Demonstrators picketed the Dunn office of 2nd District Congresswoman Renee Ellmers on Wednesday, calling for more federal spending to create jobs. About two dozen demonstrators said they wanted to persuade Ellmers to change her hawkish stance on the U.S. deficit. Ellmers wasn’t at her office, but she said in a written statement that “I disagree deeply” with the protesters while respecting their opinions. NEWSFLASH!!!!!! Federal spending does not create jobs. Instead of going down to a Congresswoman’s office and begging her to throw money out the window to them (which has been stolen out of the wallets of hard working Americans), they should get off their duffs and go to work somewhere doing something.
Send the illiegals home, cut off the the give away they will go to work .. They will never work as long as they can get as much not working.
Cut out the imports and jobs will come back. When you get them back break up the unions and keep them.
It sounds like Commish Brummitt is for every kind of restriction and ordinance involving property except for zoning, including a public a water system, and he ignores the positive economic impact that zoning will bring. How can he hold the county hostage against new development during these fiscally hard times? I’m a libertarian but zoning offers more protection and preserves property rights more than it restricts land use. The claim that zoning will keep individuals from starting new businesses rings hollow, to put it nicely. The gun club issue, caused from a lack of county zoning, is the best proof that reacting to every land use situation that comes up is a waste of everyone’s time, money and energy. We all would have loved to see that business come to the county, but would you want it next door to your house or in your neighborhood? Ever wondered why we don’t have a Target, or a Kohls or another choice in grocery stores when we are right on I85? Help give Vance County a chance to compete with other towns and bring more prosperity to the whole county by supporting zoning.
And I hope WIZS will have a commissioner on in the near future that supports zoning so both sides of the issue can be heard.
Dagney; I couldn’t agree with you more. I noticed several things today while listening:
* Dan Brummit doesn’t know anything about zoning. He made several ‘boo-boo’s” today like the issue with the hog farm idea(example) Yes it is true that a legal, bonafied farm is exempt from from codes and zoning, they still cannot do what they want to; there are other state and federal issues that they must apply by. So a farm of 10 acres might not be able to support what-ever they want to do there. Also the issue regarding a business working out of a home. Zoning will not hinder that; BUT when it becomes a nuisance with traffic and other neighbors, yes; zoning will apply to that. Dan your ideas are not supported by me even though you represent my district. If you want to make me happy, do something about the trash on the roads in YOUR district!
*Also; Tim said that “The people don’t understand it”. Yes Tim we do understand it. We are not a bunch of dumb local southern hicks.
It is hard to find today a voter that thinks the last person they voted for, either Republican or Democrat has done what they said they would do while they were running for office. After they are in office they procead to do nothing but persue the intrest of the wealthy contributors and special intrest groupes and party officials. This fact has been made clearly in recent weaks. Most comentatores however agree that the only exception to this unsatisfactory action has been Indipendants and Tea party candidates actualy working to carry out the comitments to voters . For my two cent I hope that in future upcoming elections we will see more Tea Part Candidates and Indipent candidates running for Local and State and National offices. Congresswoman Ellmers and any other US Citizan must know we can not continue to spend money on any program we can not pay for. Is that too hard to understand?
